Prairie Angels' Home Page
The formation of the Prairie Angels Chapter, Mossleigh, Alberta, of the Red Hat Society began with a small article regarding the Red Hat Society that was passed to me by a friend. It went on to describe the events, fun and laughter which twigged my vivid imagination so I decided to go into the Web Site to see for myself.

After spending at least two hours looking through many of the Chapters from all over the United States and Canada I thought,  this is something I would really enjoy.  After locating the Canadian listings, then looking for Calgary, to my surprise all the clubs were closed to membership. Well what is a vivid, excited mind going to do now?  Well up popped a little screen that said, "Would you like to start a Chapter?" What the heck, I am sure there are a few other zany ladies that would like to have fun around here, so I filled in the registration and thought about a name. What should I call it???? As Mossleigh is nestled outside Calgary in a farming area on the prairies, somehow the name Prairie Angels just came to mind, so low and behold there it was, now where do I find others?

I spoke to a friend, who is now my Vice Queen, Lady Pat of Lonesome Dove, and she was just as excited as I. So we planned an open house at my little "House on the Prairies". We placed a little note in our local paper asking anyone who might be interested in joining to come over and bring their favorite tea cup along, and if they had a red hat or anything purple that was a bonus. There were five ladies that enjoyed tea and goodies, lots of laughs and we had our first Red Hat event that evening without knowing it. Each of us thought of Red Hat names and each name picked had a meaning to it. I love shoes, hence, Queen Clydine of Many Shoes.......

Since that night in October of 2002 our group has expanded to 20 wonderful diverse ladies who have each brought their zest for life and laughter to our group. We have attended many outings with our sister chapters and other events on our own. It is great to be involved in an organization where we can be ourselves and share our friendship, laughs, tears and joy together without judgment. The Red Hat Society has given to me, such a focus on the fun part of life, as we do have choices in our lives. I am glad that I made the effort to look at something new and it has been all up hill since then. As our song goes There's Nuthin Like Red Hat Society, it speaks for itself.
